The German International School Washington D.C., located on a serene campus in Potomac, Maryland, serves more than 560 students from preschool through 12th grade, representing over 25 nationalities. As the only full-time German day school in the Washington, D.C. area, the institution is rooted in academic excellence, cultural exchange, and community. Our firm led a comprehensive interior and exterior renovation of the three-story campus with construction unfolding in seven meticulously planned phases—while the school remained fully occupied and operational. The project addressed four primary goals: constructing a modern administrative suite, improving energy efficiency, upgrading to meet ADA standards, and overhauling mechanical and electrical systems. Major exterior work included complete replacement of the curtain wall, slope glazing, skylights, windows, doors, and roofing systems, ensuring both performance and durability. Interior improvements featured a state-of-the-art administrative wing with offices and conference rooms, restroom renovations for accessibility, and elevator modernization. Mechanical and electrical upgrades, including the installation of energy-efficient systems, significantly enhance the building’s operational sustainability and indoor comfort. Each element of the renovation was executed with sensitivity to the school’s continuous operation and cultural identity. The result is a thoughtfully revitalized learning environment that reflects the school’s international mission and forward-thinking vision—balancing functionality, safety, and design integrity. This project showcases our ability to deliver complex educational renovations in active environments, while upholding the architectural and operational standards expected by premier academic institutions. It stands as a testament to our team’s coordination, precision, and commitment to creating lasting impact in educational spaces.
