The Leonardtown Library and Garvey Senior Activity Center stands as a thoughtfully integrated, state-of-the-art, 45,410-square-foot facility that reflects our firm’s ability to deliver complex civic projects with precision, resilience, and community focus. Situated on the 141-acre Hayden Property in Leonardtown, Maryland, the single-story structure blends a full-service library with a modern senior activity center, providing an inclusive hub for learning, wellness, and social connection. The library features high-bay steel framing, robust technology infrastructure, dedicated areas for adults, teens, and children, a hi-tech specialty classroom, study rooms, and a welcoming vending café. Adjacent, the senior center includes strength and fitness rooms, arts and crafts spaces, quiet lounges, a commercial kitchen, and dedicated rooms for wellness activities. Shared amenities such as meeting rooms, reception areas, workrooms, restrooms, and computer labs reinforce the facility’s multipurpose design. The exterior showcases masonry and metal panel veneer with metal stud backup walls, while the surrounding site is fully developed with new utilities, stormwater systems, parking lots, walking paths, a brick patio, and athletic courts. During construction, unforeseen unsuitable soil conditions were encountered, prompting close collaboration between construction and design teams to mitigate cost and schedule impacts. A rigorous Quality Control program—including submittal reviews, preparatory meetings, mock-ups, and inspections—ensured high-grade finishes and exceptional craftsmanship throughout. The project also includes the extension of the Town of Leonardtown’s water main to Hollywood Road (MD 245), supporting long-term municipal infrastructure. Delivered amid the challenges of a global pandemic, the Leonardtown Library and Garvey Senior Center exemplifies our commitment to building resilient, high-performance spaces that enrich public life and meet the evolving needs of multigenerational communities.
